2. Глаголы и глагольные обороты, выражающие желание.

2.1. Менее категоричным выражением желания, чем глагол want, является сочетание would like [ '] + инфинитив с частицей to, соответствующее русскому хотел бы, хотелось бы.

1. Alanand Ann would like to meet your wife.
 Алан и Энн хотели бы познакомиться с вашей женой.
2. Would you like to go to the theatre with us? Вы хотели бы пойти с нами в театр?
Вы не хотели бы пойти с нами в театр?
3. I wouldn't like to say "no", but... Мне бы не хотелось сказать «нет», но ...

В утвердительном предложении после подлежащего-местоимения глагол would употребляется в редуцированной форме ':

1. I'd [] like to have а  rest.  Я хотел бы (мне бы хотелось) отдохнуть,
2. He'd [] like to go by plane. Он бы хотел (ему бы хотелось) полететь самолетом.

1) С глаголом want в значении очень часто употребляется слово really.

really want to help. Я очень хочу помочь.

2) Русским предложениям типа я хочу (мне хочется) есть, пить, спать соответствуют английские I'm hungry, I'm thirsty [':], I'm sleepy.

2.2. Возможные ответы на вопросы, начинающиеся с would you like.

1. "Would you like some tea?"
"Yes, I'd love some."
"Yes, if I may." 		Хотите чаю?
Да, с удовольствием.
Да, если можно.
2. "Would you like to have a snack?"
"No, thank you!
'Not just yet."		 Вам хотелось бы перекусить?
Спасибо, пока еще нет.
3. "Would you like to come to the country with us?"

"Oh, yes! I'd love to!"
 Вам бы хотелось поехать с нами за город?
Да, с удовольствием! (дословно: Очень хотелось (бы)!)

В ответе I'd love to частица to является словом-заместителем и употребляется во избежание повторения инфинитивного оборота to go to the country.

2.3. Русским словосочетаниям если(как, когда, где) хотите соответствуют английские if (as, when, where) you like.

1. We can have breakfast now, if you like. Мы можем позавтракать сейчас, если хотите.
2. "Shall we discuss it now, or wait till tomotraw?"
"As you like." 		Обсудим это сейчас или подождем до завтра?
Как хотите.
3. "Where shall we meet?" "Where you like." Где мы встретимся?
Где хотите.

2.4. Русскому словосочетанию любой, какой хотите соответствует английское any ... you like.

1. We can go to any theatre you like. Мы можем пойти в любой театр, какой захотите.
2. You can call me any time you like. Вы можете позвонить мне в любое время, когда хотите.

John Young is a British businessman. His company's got good business contacts with Russian companies, so he often comes to Russia on business. He's already been to Moscow three times. This is his fourth visit here. Mr Young finds that trade with Russia is very important for British business. "We very much want to develop our trade relations. Good trade relations help us to understand each other and live in peace, don't they?" he says.
In this picture you can see Mr Young and Oleg Smimov, one of his Russian counterparts. They have just signed a contract and are discussing a visit to a big factory in the suburbs of Moscow.
"When would you like to go?" Oleg asks. "Any day you say!" Mr Young answers.
"Then let me give the factory manager a ring and find out," Oleg says. He rings the manager, and they arrange to go the next day.

This time Mr Young has brought his wife Judy to Moscow. It's her first visit here, she's never been to Russia before.
Oleg Smimov and John Young have just finished discussing business and are talking about their plans for the weekend.

O. Would you like to go to the theatre on Saturday?
Y. Oh, I'd love to. Only my Russian isn't good enough understand plays, I'm afraid. Nor is Judy's, of course.
